Since 2008, Valvasori has received critical acclaim nationally for his work and influence in both Melbourne and Perth dining scenes. In 2009 and 2010 he was awarded one ͚Chef͛s Hat͛ in ͚The Age Good Food Guide͛ and one Star in Gourmet Traveller for his work at Balzari Restaurant in Melbourne.
In 2012, Joel took on the role of Head chef at Lalla Rookh in Perth where he receive much acclaim and guided Lalla Rookh to become one of Perth͛’s most highly regarded and respected venues.
In 2014, Lalla Rookh was awarded ͚1 star͛ in the Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide. In 2015, Valvasori helped steer Lalla Rookh into Australia͛’s top 100 restaurants in both the Australian Financial Review͛ (AFR) Top 100 Awards as well as the Australian Gourmet Traveller restaurant guide.
In 2016, Valvasori helped drive the business up another 29 places to number 71 in the AFR Top 100 Awards, the largest jump of any WA restaurant and one of only 5 to make the list.
Late 2016 saw the opening of Valvasori’s first solo venture and Perth’s first dedicated premium pasta bar, Lulu La Delizia. Since opening in October, Valvasori has received national praise and acclaim for his hearty, Northern Italian dishes. Since opening, Lulu La Delizia has been awarded ‘one hat’ in the National Good Food Guide, ‘one star’ in the Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide, ranked #63 in the AFR Top 100, as well as making The Hot 50 and being labelled Australia’s best pasta restaurant by John Lethlean in The Australian.
