We are tea lovers and Darjeeling tea – which has a global recognition as the ‘Champagne of teas’ fascinates us. Darjeeling tea is grown only at the foothills of the Himalayas in Darjeeling, India (3200 ft above the sea level) and cannot be grown, manufactured or replicated anywhere else in the world. The unique agro-climatic condition of the region contributes to its distinctive muscatel flavour and aroma. However, according to the official sources, each year, around 10 million kg of teas are grown in 87 tea gardens spread over 17,500 hectares of land but over 40 million Kg teas are sold worldwide as Darjeeling. To protect the authenticity, Darjeeling tea was granted the Geographical Indication (GI) status in India and in the European Union and are registered in Australia as the ‘Certification Mark’, which is a strong Intellectual Property in Australia. We are one of the very few companies in Australia (if not the only one) to import these pure, organic, fine teas (single origin, single estate) directly from the tea plantations, packed at source and deliver it to the premium Australian consumers, vide license of authenticity issued by the regulatory body of India. Our ethically sourced teas carry USDA Organic certifications are available both online and through selected retail stores in Australia.
The rare and coveted Organic (chemical free) Darjeeling tea, which is an art, is handpicked and carefully crafted primarily by women. The sight of a mother (a tea-picker) holding a ‘tea-leaf’ while at the same time carrying her child in her pouch is a sight- that is quite common. And that, in a way exemplifies the nature/nurture bond. Thus, through the ‘mother and child’ image on our products, created by a women artist from the region, we pay our respect to all those women working in the tea gardens while nurturing both their human child as well as the industry. It is in their nature to nurture and that help produce one of the finest teas in the world that are very rich in antioxidants and are nature’s gift for active and health loving people.
There was a time when drinking tea was a ritual that strengthened bonds, brought friends and families together, stirred intellectual discussions, incited romanticism and reinvigorated many. We are attempting to revive that nostalgia of the bygone era.”
