Momofuku x Yardbird (Hong Kong)

Momofuku x Yardbird HK

In October, Taste Dining Experiences: Sydney presented by Diners Club is giving you a taste of what a true collaboration should be like with a unique evening devised between Paul Carmichael of Momofuku Seiobo and Matt Abergel of Yardbird Hong Kong.

Imagine Thanksgiving, Christmas and your annual family picnic are all on one day. Now imagine that you come from a family where Paul Carmichael and Matt Abergel are your parents. You show up to dinner, welcomed with a cold Sapporo beer. You are not allowed to leave the table until your stomach is full and after the pudding, your mum(Paul) still wants to stuff your bag with leftovers for tomorrow. If this sounds like a strange and awesome fantasy, come to our Taste Dinner on Sunday 20th October where all your messed-up dreams will come true.

You won’t want to miss out!

ABOUT MATT ABERGEL

Matt Abergel is the Co-Owner and Executive Chef of RŌNIN and Yardbird Hong Kong. He is also the Co-Founder of Sunday’s Spirits – an independent brand of Japanese alcoholic beverages, including sake, shochu, and whisky, that are made in collaboration with various producers. At the beginning of his career, Matt worked in Japanese kitchens throughout Canada before moving to New York City to work under Masayoshi Takayama at Masa. When Matt moved to Hong Kong in 2009, the food culture of the city inspired him to open his own restaurant and in 2011, he opened Yardbird Hong Kong with his business partner Lindsay Jang. Yardbird Hong Kong is a modern izakaya that specializes in chicken yakitori. Matt and Lindsay opened their second restaurant, RŌNIN, in 2013 – a dining bar focused on fish, seafood, and Japanese spirits. In 2018, Matt’s first book, Chicken and Charcoal, was published by Phaidon. Much more than a cookbook, Chicken and Charcoal has its own unique style and strong visual references by artist Evan Hecox, revealing the magic behind Yardbird Hong Kong’s food and drinks as well as the story of where the restaurant started, how it grew, and where it is today. In 2019, Chicken and Charcoal won a James Beard Foundation Award for best book in the Restaurant and Professional category.
